THE BAD:
The mounting hardware isn't metric which necessitates additional tools to be carried for adjustment. Not realizing this at first I installed the rack with my metric allen wrench multitool and ended up with stripped heads and a poorly tightened rack. This was a giant disaster as the damn thing almost shook itself apart and the bike along with it the first tour out.

THE FIX:
I managed to retighten the bolts temporarily and finish the remaining 400 miles of my trip. When I got home I replaced all the hardware with larger, metric bolts and added washers in a few places.I tightened the bejeezus out of all the bolts and used threadlock where necessary. The result is a much more competent rack that doesn't sway anywhere near as much.

THE BOTTOM LINE:
Still not the best for self supported touring. My old blackburn expedition rack was much stiffer and well worth the extra ten bucks.

LESSON LEARNED:
Heavier racks are worth the extra few bucks. The sway in these cheapies can only be reduced to marginally acceptable levels.
